The Giants were an absolute embarrassment in Chicago — on every level.

almost certain to lose his job while the other head coach was almost certain to get another season. And the coach that is gThe coach about to lose his job is the one who had a two-touchdown lead after the first three and a half minutes, the one whose team scored eight points the hard way — field goal, safety, field goal — in the final two minutes before halftime, the one whose defense held the opposing quarterback to four freakin’ yards through nearly three full quarters.

They barely resembled an NFL team on Sunday — afraid to attempt passes , incapable of gaining a single yard in the shadow of their own end zone, inept in all three phases of the game. Worse, they punched out on the head coach in the opening minutes, essentially waving the white flag with their glaring lack of effort.

Dave Gettleman did all that, and so much more, to build a roster that is both expensive under the salary cap and completely devoid of talent. His successor will need to be a magician to fix this mess, and that’s on Gettleman. If you watched this 29-3 Giants loss to the Bears — and, if you did, may I humbly suggest a new hobby? — it was impossible to come up with one single area in which Judge is succeeding as head coach. The offense stinks. The defense stinks.

Remember: It was a special teams play that truly derailed this season months ago. In Week 2, defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence jumped offside on a missed field goal to give Washington a second crack at stealing a walk-off victory. I can’t think of anything further from the truth now, and during this loss, plenty of observers were sharpening their pitchforks. One prominent agent, David Canter, tweeted, “The Giants are a terribly coached football team. Prove me wrong.” If that’s the public sentiment, imagine what people are saying privately.
