Milk is a perishable product that requires aNdlovu used to make the journey on foot, carrying nearly 20 litres of milk in a can on top of her head twice a day. She migrated from Chiredzi, around 200km from Chipinge, four years ago to become a full-time dairy farmer.

“I almost cried with joy the day I received my hamba,” Ndlovu remembers. It now takes her less than 20 minutes to deliver milk to Mayfield. She uses the cargo section of the e-tricycle to take the cans, taking a minimum of 17 litres of milk in the morning and 12 litres late afternoon. There is a charging station in Chipinge where she can go to swap her lithium battery for a fully charged one when running low on energy. A hamba’s batteries take an average of six hours to charge and the tricycles can go approximately 50km per battery.
