Let me be clear. Does race play a part in the way some people view the NBA? No crap. Race impacts how many people view life, in general. It’s only human to notice the differences in people and what makes them who they are based on their background and the way they are raised. But I do think voters just haven’t used enough context when voting for the award. It’s become a numbers award, which is why Jokić has been pushed to the front of the line. We aren’t measuring impact. We aren’t measuring defensive impact. We aren’t measuring winning, and I think we absolutely need to take a step back and do some of those things.
