Both his Formula One titles, in 2005 and 2006, were clinched with podium finishes at Interlagos.
“Those three corners were crucial for an overtaking opportunity.” Alonso kept changing his lines to prevent Pérez from knowing where to place his Red Bull to cool his tires. It’d be worth around one-tenth of a second to Alonso each lap, yet that would increase the gap enough to stop Pérez getting close enough to try and overtake into Turn 1. With five laps left, Alonso thought he had third place secure and started to push to increase the gap — only for Pérez to respond.
