Joseph Nwankwo, 59, of Houston, and Stacey Ajaja, 51, of Richmond, were sentenced in March after pleading guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States and engaging in the illegal payment and receipt of healthcare kickbacks, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas. Nwankwo this week was ordered to report May 9 to the U.S. Penitentiary in Beaumont. Ajaja must surrender at the federal prison camp in Bryan on May 23.
Nwankwo also pleaded guilty to bribing a physician to authorize medically unnecessary home health services for Hefty patients. The men were sentenced last month by U.S. District Judge George C. Hanks in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
