The Alabama House Republican caucus picks Rep. Nathaniel Ledbetter of Rainsville over Rep. Steve Clouse of Ozark as the next speaker of the House. alpolitics

Ledbetter will replace Speaker Mac McCutcheon of Monrovia, who has been speaker since 2016. McCutcheonThe Republican caucus includes 26 new members who were elected on Tuesday. The election produced no net change in the balance of power in the House, as the Democrats and the Republicans each flipped one seat.
Clouse has served in the Legislature since 1994. Both Ledbetter and Clouse were reelected Tuesday without opposition.
