Postmistress Marlene Wood says she has paid out more than £2,000 to make up for unexplained shortfallsis not a thing of the past but an ongoing problem causing stress and sleepless nights, a postmistress has said.. “It blanks out and comes back on and then you don’t know if transactions have gone through. It’s amazing that it is still being used. It isn’t right.
“Someone phoned me to say it would be written off as a gesture of goodwill. I don’t know whether there is acknowledgement of glitches in the system, or whether it’s because some of us have kicked up a fuss.” A different version of the Horizon software provided by Fujitsu has been used since 2017, which the Post Office insists is robust. However, the company plans to replace it entirely by 2025.
Mr Brown challenged the sums that did not tally with Horizon figures, and did not have to pay anything. On some days the difference between cash totals and Horizon figures in Post Office branches across the UK is more than £1m, according toMs Wood, struggling to balance her books, put her Comrie Post Office and newsagent up for sale earlier this year. The Comrie Community Council has crowdfunded just over £5,000 to help her keep it open, but the postmistress fears the branch is not viable.
Asked about the shortfalls experienced by Ms Wood, a Post Office spokesperson said: “We have been very sorry to hear of the experience our current postmistress for Comrie Crieff has been having.
