Hope for millions with long Covid as study finds that symptoms should disappear within a year

According to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics, an estimated 2.1 million people in private households in the UK were experiencing long Covid as of 4 December, 2022

Some 57 per cent of those people said they had had long Covid symptoms for at least one year, with 30 per cent reporting that symptoms had lasted for at least two years.author, Danny Altmann, is keen to emphasise: “Around 1 million people in the UK have had long Covid for at least a year – and that’s a large number of relatively disabled people.”

So it might be that huge numbers are getting it for less than a year but huge numbers are also getting it for much longer, so it would be quite wrong to make light of long Covid, he says.
