Many Firestick users aren't aware there's actually a way to watch lots of shows for free legally
Brits using so-called 'dodgy' firesticks to illegal stream sport and TV packages are being warned of raids by the authorities as part of a crackdown. Adapted devices that offer access to paid for content have increased in popularity over recent years as the cost of subscriptions to TV packages has soared.
Criminals have been cashing in by offering devices that have been tampered with in exchange for a smaller monthly fee. But it hasn't gone unnoticed and the UK authorities are now clamping down on the practice. Raids have taken place across the whole of the country with one person arrested and a further 10 interviewed under caution. The operation took place in conjunction with FACT and the Premier League, with the aim of shutting down illegal streaming.
Police have also warned adapted Firestick users that they could be leaving themselves vulnerable to the risks of data theft, fraud and malware. Standard Firesticks that haven't been tampered with cost £44,99, the lite version is £34.99, while an advanced version is £69.99. Many people may not be aware that there's also a legal way to watch thousands of films and TV shows for free, The Mirror reports. An app called 'Freevee', run by Amazon, offers a selection of digital movies and TV shows at no extra cost. It's an ad-supported streaming service that lets you watch various movies and shows without paying a penny. You can also watch free movies and shows on Youtube, ITVX, Channel 4 and PlutoTV.
