New York will allocate $35 million to abortion providers in the state as the fate of Roe v. Wade is called into question.
The bulk of the sum, or roughly $25 million of the"unprecedented funding," will be given to New York abortion providers from the state's Department of Health, with an additional $10 million going to security grants for the providers. The donation will"hopefully set an example" for other states to"welcome with open arms" women who need abortions, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday.
"As the first female governor of the state of New York, this is a fight I am willing to take on, so let's roll up our sleeves and let people know where our values are," Hochul said."We're not backing down, and we'll not stand idly by when rights of women across the entire nation are destroyed." Today, New York State is making a nation-leading $35 million investment to give reproductive health providers the resources they need.

Wade and encouraged women to come to her state to receive abortions, saying,"New York will always be a place where abortion rights are protected and where abortion is safe and accessible.
Other New York officials are taking steps to ensure widespread access to abortion in the wake of the leaked Supreme Court ruling.
