Today marks the first day of HispanicHeritageMonth!
in June — Hispanic Heritage Month takes place from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. This speaks to its own history. Back in 1968, California Congressman George E. Brown put forth a House resolution that authorized the president to proclaim what was then known as National Hispanic Heritage Week, which was to always fall on the week that included Sept. 15 and 16.
“Hispanics in the United States are a diverse group who bring a rich combination of language, culture, educational backgrounds, and experience to the great American experiment. This diverse background brings with it a wealth of ideas and perspectives," Soares explained of her inspiration for the theme."One uniting factor within our Hispanic community is our desire to be included and represented in all aspects of American society.
The poster to accompany this year's theme was created by Ms. Irene Matos Chan, IT Manager for the Castle Square Tenants Organization and can be seen below.
