Darryl George, an 18-year-old junior at Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu, Texas, was notified this week he will be sent to an alternative disciplinary school for infractions related to not cutting his hair. Principal Lance Murphy wrote that George has repeatedly violated the district’s “previously communicated standards of student conduct.” The letter listed a series of infractions, all of which appear to be related to George’s hair style except for some tardiness infractions, The Times said. Darresha George and the family’s attorney deny the teenager’s hairstyle violates the dress code. The family last month filed aagainst the state’s governor and attorney general, alleging they failed to enforce a new law outlawing discrimination based on hairstyles.
