At the Liverpool ECHO we love to showcase some of Merseyside and the surrounding area's most treasured spots and hidden gem s. With the arrival of Spring and the promise of better weather to come, the region has a host of attractions to visit - including one "village" hidden away in the town of Southport . Back in 2022, we visited Wesley Street , and found a sense of community which suggested prophecies of the end of the high street might be premature.
The apparent decline of the high street has been much-publicised, Ben Haslam wrote in 2022. Empty shop units have been a common trend across the country as news is pumped out about the latest shop or company that has been forced out of business.
