"Every single individual that accesses HHS Protect is authenticated," said HHS Chief Information Officer Jose Arrieta, whose office runs Protect. "That means a civilian member of the HHS staff actually meets with them, checks their passport and ID, and allows them access to the system."The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention activated its Emergency Operations Center to assist public health partners in responding to the novel coronavirus outbreak, February, 2020.

"When you have visibility as to what's happening at the zip code level, across the United States, you can actually allocate resources in real time so that you can actually start to combat a pandemic," Arrieta said.
