Un alto funcionario de Hezbollah juró que Israel pagará un alto precio en el momento en que inicie una ofensiva terrestre en la Franja de Gaza y aseguró el sábado que su grupo miliciano basado en Líbano ya está “en el centro de la batalla”.
El sublíder de Hezbollah, el jeque Naim Kassem, hizo los comentarios mientras Israel bombardeaba y atacaba con drones el sur de Líbano y Hezbollah lanzaba cohetes y misiles hacia Israel. Para Hezbollah, caldear la frontera entre Líbano e Israel tiene un claro objetivo, Kassem dijo: “Intentamos debilitar al enemigo israelí y hacerle saber que estamos listos”. Funcionarios de Hamas dijeron que si Israel inicia una ofensiva terrestre en Gaza, Hezbollah se unirá a la lucha.
Existen preocupaciones de que Hezbollah, respaldado por Irán y que cuenta con un arsenal de armas que consiste en decenas de miles de cohetes y misiles así como diferentes tipos de drones, intente abrir un nuevo frente en la guerra entre Israel y Hamas con un ataque a gran escala en el norte de Israel.
