The heritage organisation ensures the protection of historic and architectural sites across Stirling.

Historic building watchdogs say they are working with Stirling Council in the hope of safeguarding the listed building in its grounds which was damaged in a major fire over the weekend.

Stirling City Heritage Trust is the local body which promotes and encourages the protection and preservation of the historic, architectural and landscape heritage within the Stirling Council area. The B-listed property, built in 1897, most recently was used as council offices along with the now demolished New Viewforth and Old Viewforth, the current headquarters of Stirling Council.

In recent months, councillors have been reviewing detailed options for disposal of the wider Viewforth site, which would see the authority retain and refurbish its headquarters at Old Viewforth. Stirling Council SNP Group Leader Scott Farmer suggested the Labour administration and Conservative group had “serious questions to answer”, while Green councillor Alasdair Tollemache said: “The whole story surrounding this building reflects badly on the last three administrations of the council.”
