Opening up to the LA Times, Tate said, 'My fans have seen me writing songs in my bedroom since I was 13. I don't think I realised then how much I was in the public eye. Your perspectives and tastes change so much.'McRae hails from Calgary, a town best known as being Canada's answer to Texas. More known for its Stampede rodeos, pursuing a career in the arts left Tate feeling an outsider.
Her debut LP, I Used To Think I Could Fly, landed on the top 20 - but Tate's been open about finding her success a challenge. 'People are very critical of young women, they get attacked as soon as they share their passions,' she told the LA Times.
