During his 18-year career Busby also played for Third Lanark, Airdrieonians, Toronto Blizzard and Morton.
The popular player was remembered for his commitment to the club as the team reminisced about Busby's legendary playing skills and knack for scoring goals. In a touching tribute, Alan Busby wrote: "Our family are saddened to say that our amazing Dad/Husband and Papa, Drew Busby passed away this morning surrounded by his family. We are very much in mourning but appreciate all the many kind words being sent to us.
Graham Gibson said: "So sorry to hear Alan. He & my dad scoring hat tricks at Arbroath is one of my favourite stories. Foundation of Hearts also paid tribute to the footballing legend who was very popular with Jambos fans. They said: "Such sad news about the great Drew Busby. Hearts of Midlothian released a club statement paying tribute to Busby as they shared a profile written by club historian David Speed.
