'Everyone loved her': Heartfelt tributes to beloved mayoress who devoted life to Rossendale
Heartfelt tributes have been made to the former beloved mayoress of Rossendale who devoted her life in service of her family and community.
She served as the mayoress of Rossendale from 1977 to 1978 alongside her husband of more than 30 years and the mayor David James Tennant, who worked tirelessly for Haslingden Council until he died in 1988. The couple’s daughter, Margaret Tennant, said: “I cannot put into words what a wonderful person my mother was and she wasn’t a showy person, but she was rich in the form of the community.
“She was a lovely lady and everyone who knew her loved her. She loved her family, and she was the most wonderful mother and grandmother and she was treasured by everyone. She enjoyed many holidays with her mother including a trip to Ibiza and they travelled to Fuerteventura twice a year from the late 1990s until 2017. The cherished grandmother-of-three danced at the old Rawtenstall Astoria in her youth and she joined the local NSPCC committee which supported vulnerable children.
