Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity, has released an emotional Christmas advert titled 'Good As Gold'. The advert follows a young girl named Maddy as she performs helpful tasks around the community, only to realize she is still living in a cramped bedsit. The advert aims to raise awareness about the issue of child homelessness.
A heartbreaking Christmas advert has been released - and it will bring viewers to tears. Shelter , the housing and homelessness charity, has launched its festive campaign.
Maddy opens doors for a struggling woman, carries a Christmas tree for another woman, gives up her seat on the bus, and even hands in her homework at school as her classmates run wild. She goes to bed with a huge smile on her face. Shelter's film follows the launch of last year’s ‘Brave Face’ campaign, which also featured a young child facing Christmas in temporary accommodation. Shelter estimates that this year over 131,000 children in England will wake up on Christmas day in temporary accommodation.
These details included damp living conditions and mould on the walls, an entire family sharing one bed, as well as the emotional impact and the tight bonds shared by the family going through the situation. “As we head into winter, Shelter is doing everything we can to help the thousands of families facing homelessness this Christmas. Our expert advisers are working in communities across the country, they are taking calls at our emergency helpline, and they are providing free, expert case work.
