Detectives picked up a Harlem man accused of shooting a neighbor to death in front of an apartment building on Monday night.

Freddie Gaetan, 29, was booked Wednesday afternoon on murder charges in connection with the killing of Paul Gonzalez, 38, in front of the victim’s apartment building at 230 West 140th St. — just down the block from Gaetan’s residence.found Gonzalez shot in the head while responding to a 911 call about the incident at about 9:57 p.m. on June 19. EMS rushed him to Harlem Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Police sources said it was not immediately known if Gaetan or Gonzalez knew each other. The motive also remains unclear and under investigation. Based on information they obtained, sources familiar with the case said, detectives tracked Gaetan down at a motor inn in Stony Point, located in suburban Rockland County. The NYPD Warrant Squad worked with the Stony Point Police Department to apprehend Gaetan on Wednesday, authorities said.

Gaetan faces charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He’s scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in New York County Criminal Court, according to
