Students and parents from Hargrave High School in Huffman ISD are volunteering at Top Dog in Atascocita to raise money for Project Graduation.
Hargrave High students prepare boxes for shoppers to use to make selections for their fireworks. The students work at the Top Dog Fireworks Warehouse during the summer and winter to earn money for their Project Graduation. Some parents, along with their senior or junior students from Hargrave High School, will be spending their Christmas break working a fireworks warehouse.
“We have a new board that rotates in following Project Graduation each May. They will do the work for their group of seniors,” she said. They also had the contract to sell fireworks in July, which turned out to be a down year for them because of the drought and burn bans. “We just want to remind everyone that fireworks are not allowed in most municipal jurisdictions including the city of Houston; and in Harris County, residents should check with their homeowner’s association before setting off fireworks,” she said.
According to Davis, Top Dog has contributed more than $3 million to these groups over the past decade. Students can win large plasma televisions, laptops, and even vacuum cleaners for students heading off to college and living in an apartment.
