His comments came as Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will have 'security responsibility’ for Gaza once war ends
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel will have 'overall security responsibility' for Gaza once the fighting ends. In an interview with US channel ABC News, he suggested Israel would have control over Gaza for 'an indefinite period'. He also resisted calls for a ceasefire but said humanitarian pauses could be possible to allow aid in and Israeli hostages out.
National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby suggested it was too early to say what governance in Gaza should look like post-conflict. 'I don't believe that any solutions have been settled upon one way or the other,' Mr Kirby said, citing conversations between US and Israeli officials.
