Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has found himself in a rut of form in recent weeks but Pep Guardiola can fix it.
It seems ludicrous to suggest the Premier League's leading scorer - a position he has held since August 2022 - isn't actually playing too well at the moment. But that's just the remarkable standard Erling Haaland has set himself.
It isn't just the decreasing goals that are the biggest issue, but also his lack of involvement in recent matches. Against Wolves, he had two slight glimpses at goal but just 15 touches across the 90 minutes. At Arsenal, before the international break, he managed 23 touches but not a single effort on goal, coming away with an xG of 0.0.
Thankfully, Pep Guardiola has encountered the problem before and can fix it in the exact same way. Despite Haaland's hot start, City did initially struggled with the inclusion of a dedicated striker in the side. City had grown used to basically playing with another midfield in attack which gave them so much additional control of the ball thanks to whoever was playing as a false 9's excellent passing and pressing.
But eventually, the solution was found in the form of John Stones. The Blues boss had been working on pushing a defender from the back into midfield when City had possession. It would allow his current attacking midfielders to push closer to Haaland without leaving massive gaps behind them and create more passing lanes for recycling possession.
