“As the word gets out, other workers are going to say to themselves, ‘Why is this not happening for me?’” says Marc Perrone, international president at the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. During the coronavirus outbreak, UFCW has negotiated increases in pay and benefits for more than 500,000 grocery workers at more than 15 grocery chains across the country.SAFM
Some factories are trying to stagger when workers are bussed in or when they take their lunch breaks, but at poultry processors, for example, the pace of production is moving at break-neck speeds.
