People across the region have voted for their new mayor
It is the third time the election for a Mayor of Greater Manchester has taken place with Andy Burnham being elected in 2017 and then again in 2021. Tony Lloyd had held the position on an interim basis from 2015 to 2017.
Mayors are typically elected for a period of four years, with no limit to the number of terms served. The candidates who stood in this year's mayoral election were Jake Austin , Dan Barker , Nick Buckley , Andy Burnham , Laura Evans and Hannah Spencer .The mayor of Greater Manchester has powers and responsibilities in relation to transport, economic development, provision of skills training and housing. The role includes the responsibilities of the police and crime commissioner.
Mayoral elections took place in East Midland, Greater Manchester, Liverpool City Region, North East, London, West Midlands, West Yorkshire and Salford.
