Prue Leith wants to have more time to deal with other commitments
A judge from the Great British Bake Off is planning to 'step back' from the show, as confirmed by the TV company. Prue Leith, one of the hosts, wants to take a break to focus on other things and won't be part of the celebrity series later this year.
Nigella Lawson is rumoured to be the top choice to fill her spot on the Channel 4 show, according to the Sun. A source shared with the paper: "Prue absolutely loves working on Bake Off but filming two series a year can be punishing on top of her other commitments." "She has already filmed the normal series, which will air this year but she will not appear on the celebrity version. Prue has made it clear she adores the show and would like to come back in 2025. She will turn 85 next year, so it's not surprising that she wants to take time off."Prue took over from Mary Berry on Bake Off in 2017 when the show moved from the BBC to Channel 4.
Being on the show helped her become known in America, something she wasn't before. She revealed: "Paul helped me get the job. I know that they auditioned a lot of younger people to be his partner." Prue, who was honoured as a Dame in 2021 for her contributions to food, broadcasting and charity, says she has stopped eating breakfast and lunch to keep fit. A spokesperson for the creators of Bake Off, Love Productions, said: "Prue will be stepping back from The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer."
