Carlos Kalmar has led the Grant Park Music Festival as its principal conductor since 2000 and was named artistic director in 2011.

Grant Park Music Festival conductor Carlos Kalmar is the subject of a Title IX investigation at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he has taught as director of orchestral and conducting programs since 2021, according to an email provided to the Tribune.

“At this point, we don’t know what Carlos has been accused of in his role as Director of Orchestral Studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, let alone whether the unspecified allegations have any merit. We’ve also not yet had the opportunity to speak with Carlos as he is presently out of the country,” Winberg’s statement reads in full.“It was with great horror that I read one of Carlos Kalmar’s course evaluations.
