Picking a winner is tough – here Chris Wright gives you a helping hand for day one of the Grand National Festival
The mighty CONSTITUTION HILL can star on the opening day of the 2023 Grand National at Aintree Racecourse – while BRAVESMANGAME can also triumph.
The race looks a fascinating one with plenty of top-class chasers in opposition. Last year's Gold Cup hero A Plus Tard; Gordon Elliott's Conflated – who was second in the Bowl behind Clan Des Obeaux 12 months ago and third to Galopin Des Champs recently; Henderson's star Shishkin, stepping up in trip for the first time; and Lucinda Russell's two-time Grade One novice winner at the Grand National Festival Ahoy Senor all could go well.
There are features on some of the leading contenders including last year's winner Noble Yeats with his trainer Emmet Mullins, winning rider Sam Waley-Cohen and his new jockey Sean Bowen.The first race over the big Aintree obstacles of the meeting is the Randox Foxhunters’ Open Hunters’ Chase and a chance is taken on DIEU VIVANT landing a 'home' win for Cheshire-based trainers Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero.
