🔴 The Government is bracing for potential exam disruption during upcoming teacher strikes as talks with education unions yesterday failed to reach a compromise in an ongoing pay dispute
It has stoked concerns that the walkouts could creep into exam season, with mock A-levels scheduled to place in March at some schools across the country., smaller class sizes, and lessons prioritised for vulnerable students and those facing exams.that it plans to “keep as many pupils in classes as possible by using staff who are not on strike, combining classes if we have to and also having online teaching as a safety net.
Peter Seargent, headteacher of Ashgate Primary School in Derby, said he would take all reasonable steps to keep the school open in full or in part for vulnerable students, but added that “parents should be mindful that there is a possibility that the school will be closed to some children”. “I fear there will be certain parts of the country where teachers are not on strike, and other areas where unions have a stronger presence, meaning schools are more likely to close.”
Dr Mary Bousted, joint general secretary of the NEU, has insisted the strikes could still be called off if the Government agrees to an improved pay offer for teachers.
