The former prime minister said support for Scottish independence had remained solid despite the SNP dropping in the polls.

Gordon Brown has warned Unionists they cannot rely on the SNP "messing up" to make the case against Scottish independence.

The SNP had "messed it up" he told the Financial Times and now poll below 40 per cent - but "support for independence has remained exactly the same". The former Kirkcaldy MP, who lives in North Queensferry, has also refused to use private health care and instead relies on the NHS.He also railed against the impact of the UK leaving the EU but remains optimistic about the country's future.
