Police responded to calls of gunfire at an apartment complex at Estrella Parkway and Centerra Drive at 1:32 a.m. There they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.Police began the search for a man suspected in the shooting, who fled. They found him at 1:46 a.m. walking at 152nd and Van Buren avenues, carrying a gun, according to a Goodyear Police Department statement.
The man approached a car, whereupon police ordered him to drop the gun, according to the statement. When he refused, one officer shot him, according to Goodyear police. No officers were injured. The dead man was not identified. Van Buren Avenue between Estrella Parkway and Bullard Avenue will be closed"for the next several hours," as the West Valley Incident Response Team investigates the fatal shooting, Goodyear police said.
Goodyear police are on the search for a silver passenger vehicle that was near the area of 152nd Drive and Van Buren Avenue at about 1:45 a.m. If you witnessed or were in this vehicle, police are asking to call the Buckeye Police Tip line at 623-349-6411.
