Golf pro bought illegal £20 Taser gun to tackle rat infestation in 'comedy of errors'
A golfer who bought an illegal 50,000-volt Taser gun for £20 to deal with a rat infestation in a "comedy of errors" has been convicted of weapons offences. Richard Gilling purchased the stun gun online on the recommendation of a friend, a court heard.

Examination of the item was then undertaken to establish that it was an illegal firearm as according to the Firearms Act 1968.
In mitigation defence solicitor Riyaz Shaikh said Gilling is a golf trainer and emphasised that he had pleaded guilty at his first opportunity. He said that he had acquired the stun gun to tackle rats following the recommendation of a friend. “It cost him in the region of £19 to £20. At first it never arrived and he forgot about it. He was offered a refund and then unfortunately the item did arrive.
“Unfortunately, he now finds himself in this position. He is 53 years old. He has kept himself out of trouble, he has never been in trouble before.”
