The Valero Texas Open celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.
The tournament, Thursday through April 3 at TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course, began in 1922 at Brackenridge Park and has grown into one of the premier events in pro golf.It’s the sixth-oldest tournament worldwide, third-oldest on the PGA Tour and longest to be held in the same city.
To be sure, the Texas Open has a long and illustrious past, with a list of champions that includes some of the great names in the sport, from Walter Hagen and Sam Snead to Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Arnold Palmer and Ben Crenshaw, to name a few.Here’s a ranking of the greatest moments in Texas Open history, listed by year:Palmer capped his record run at the Texas Open with one of the most famous — and most-watched — shots in the tournament’s history.
