Gogglebox star reveals he was the victim of an identity theft scam
Adam detailed how Linda gave him a number to call her back on that actually did appear on the Australian tax office website, and she did indeed answer his call again. Although he was still wary, his accountant joined on the call and confirmed that Linda was legitimately from the tax office.
She asked him for his address, but none of the three addresses he gave her matched what that they had on the system, and neither did his bank details. "Somebody has registered an ABN in my name in January, registered it to an address in Fawkner, which is northern suburbs of Melbourne, registered a bank account in my name.
"[They] claimed tax credits of GST of about 10-20 grand in March and in June, then taken $25,000 from the tax office illegally to an address and stolen the money under my name!"
