Mallett's Mallet star currently travelling around Northern Ireland raising awareness in honour of his brother Martin, who died in 2018

The colourful personality is currently on a cycling trip around Northern Ireland is raising awareness in honour of his brother Martin, who died in 2018. Mallett, best known for his children’s television series in the 80s and 90s and cover of Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, began his Northern Ireland trip with a tour of Parliament Buildings at Stormont where he also met deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly.

He also met former Northern Ireland goalkeeper Paul Kee, who he had a good chat about his career and the sport. The football theme didn't stop there as Mallett made his way through east Belfast calling in at The Oval, and he was impressed by what he saw, so much so that he has now given Glentoran his backing ahead of Friday's Irish Cup semi-final against Linfield.

Mallett is also expected to document his journey around the province creating several paintings during the trip. “I’m raising awareness of reaching our potential," he said. “It is inspired by my brother Martin who had Down’s Syndrome, and lived every moment of his life in the now. “I’ve circumnavigated Britain and this is part of the United Kingdom – this is our home. I want to make sure I’ve been around the whole lot.”
