The Northern Ireland man missed out by just half a point
An emotional Glenn Irwin held back the tears after he went down fighting in an epic British Superbike finale on Sunday.
Ryde almost turned into Irwin's ally as he diced for the lead with the BeerMonster pair, and on the final lap Irwin appeared to have the championship in his grasp as he led from Ryde, with Bridewell third. The battle has been intense between Irwin and Bridewell this season, and at times the rivalry threatened to get personal, notably in the aftermath of Donington Park when Bridewell collided with Irwin during one of their thrilling duels.
He added: "I gave it everything and that's all I can ask for. We had four DNFs and Knockhill was my fault. There were some other ones along the way, but at the end of the day Tommy's name is on the championship and he deserves it.
