Many Glasgow residents face a significant financial hit when the visiting parking permits eventually rise from £2 to £5 on April 1. Locals are calling for a rethink of the decision.
Plans to increase visitor parking vouchers in a number of neighbourhoods in Glasgow's west end by 150% are set to remain in place, despite plans for 10pm parking charges being scrapped by the council.
Steven Winston, who lives in the west end, has launched a petition with the hopes of persuading the local authority to rethink the move. It has so far received more than 100 signatures. "If you are an elderly person who has a carer or family member that looks after you, every time they come round you'll have to pay an extra £3 per visitor permit and they only last half a day."So currently for a day it's £6, if they come twice a week it's £12. It may cost someone £50 more a month to have someone visit."
"This feels like a tax on people who live in Glasgow city. It also feels like it has been done undercover. I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't of gone on the council website to read about the increases.A spokesman for the council said: “Changes to parking rates have been agreed as part of a budget that required to find £107m worth savings from council services over the next three years.
