The cash-first approach will set up ready access to emergency cash payments and enable people to buy the food and other essentials that meet their needs and preferences.
A cash fund to help people struggling with the cost of living crisis will see £500,000 distributed as emergency cash payments for food.
The move was welcomed by Glasgow's Green councillors, after councillors agreed on how to spend the £1.2 million to tackle poverty allocated as part of the 2024/25 budget. During the meeting, councillor Jon Molyneux said: “I would like to welcome the cash first approach. It is obviously something that the green group had advocated through the budget and was happy to see secured.
“It is about giving people dignity and choice so I think it is really encouraging to see that progress.”
