A UK-based expert says that despite attempted sightings on two different days, we may end up with the same dates for Eid ul Fitr 2024 in the UK and some other countries.
Muslim worshippers in Glasgow and across the UK could see a "united Eid " this year because of the rules on seeing the new moon.
For people whose first day of Ramadan was March 11, the 29th day is April 8, and for those who started it on March 12, the 29th day is April 9. But despite searching for the moon on different days, it appears likely that people could end up agreeing on the same date for Eid. It would mean a united Eid across the UK which is also in line with some other countries.
Noor TV's chairman, Pir Noor Ul Arifeen Siddiqui, and its Moonsighting Board are encouraging communities to go out and try to see the moon, reporting back with any sightings. "Through this process, we would like to encourage and develop an army of 'crescent chasers' within the UK," Dr Nawaz said.
