Plans have been unveiled for a huge £200m 'frigate factory' at BAE Systems' Govan yard on the River Clyde.
BAE Systems submitted a proposal of notice to Glasgow City Council in May, signalling their intent to submit an application for planning permission. The defence contractor say they "must" configure and upgrade its existing ship building capability in Govan, in order to meet the UK's future shipbuilding requirement.
A spokesperson said: "The opportunity to provide a new modern ship building hall of this nature would allow BAE Systems to adopt improved shipbuilding techniques together with improved construction access and state of the art, dedicated, on-site office and amenities accommodation.
