San Diego State won its first-ever Mountain West softball tournament on Saturday, earning a spot in the NCAA Regionals.SDSU will take on Liberty in its first NCAA Regional game on Friday.The four-team, double-elimination pod also includes No. 2 overall seed UCLA , the Pac-12’s regular-season champion and one of the nation’s softball powers. The Bruins, who are led by Cathedral Catholic High School graduate Megan Faraimo, will play Grand Canyon in their first game.
Coach Stacey Nuveman Deniz said the Aztecs’ strong finish in the conference tournament could deliver a message. “Lets take that momentum and let’s roll it in the next week,” Deniz said Saturday. “If we play like that, I like our chances against anybody in the country. And I mean that.”Game 2:Game 4:Loser of Game 3 vs. Winner of Game 4, 7 p.m.
