The Greek international has not held back when it comes to the terms behind how he left Glasgow this year.
Giorgos Giakoumakis has taken a strong pop at Celtic for how they treated his exit - as he reveals his relationship with Ange Postecoglou withered away.
The Greek striker has been voted the MLS Newcomer of the Season after an impressive debut campaign haul of 17 goals with Atlanta United. He joined Celtic under the current Tottenham boss in 2021 but played second fiddle to Kyogo, despite a strong showing of 26 goals in 57 appearances with limited starts.
He was a fans' favourite but speaking with The Athletic, he claims he had "issues" with executives at Parkhead despite a healthy dressing room relationship. And while there was no fight, his relationship with Postecoglou also fell by the wayside. Giakoumakis said: “I wouldn’t think to leave Celtic if several things didn’t go wrong, and many of them were completely wrong. I cannot lie. My relationship with the manager wasn’t great, at the end of the day.
“I had to go. I had to go. I never regretted a moment. I was sad that I had to leave Celtic. I was living a life there. I was like a god for the fans. "My connection with them was really special, and it was sad, but I had to make my decision. My last month in Celtic I was suffering because of some people at the club. I didn’t receive the respect from the people or from the club. So actually, I think they forced me to go out.”
