“They can say what they want,” Sweeney said of Norcross’ critics, “but he was a huge part of making South Jersey relevant in state politics. ... He did a lot of good statewide.”Sweeney added: “I always take George at his word. He never minces his words, good, bad, or indifferent.” Norcross did include a caveat that he would help Sweeney should the former state Senate leader run for the Democratic nomination to succeed term-limited Murphy as governor in 2025.
