You have it in reverse. The monitoring of what you do when you go online is constant on the part of social media. These companies track everything you do, not with some person sitting with a camera and headphones, but software does the trick. Whenever the government asks for information, social media companies — with some exceptions — are ready to supply it with the understood stipulation that they not be regulated. This has been ongoing for 20-plus years, with 9/11 as a useful starting point.
