EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United rate England manager Gareth Southgate highly and he is on their list to replace Erik ten Hag should he suffer the sack, but can he emerge as the top choice?
Harry Redknapp has warned Gareth Southgate that only lifting the trophy at Euro 2024 would be enough to give him a real chance of ever managing Manchester United.
Given his main focus right now is trying to lead England to a long-awaited trophy, Southgate has played down any talk, reiterating his focus is on the national team. But ex-Tottenham boss Redknapp, who came close himself to managing the Three Lions when Roy Hodgson got the job, has reminded Southgate of what he personally has riding on the tournament in Germany.
"And if he does come out as a winner, he's got great options, and the chances are if the Man United job is available, he'd be favourite. Getting that right could prove make or break for Southgate – with England and in terms of his attractiveness to top Premier League clubs like United. Redknapp says: “We've got options, it depends how bold you want to be. I'd certainly play Rice and Bellingham.
