A show the whole family can enjoy, from slapstick comedy to dark wittiness and a couple of adult jokes
I grew up with Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka and after seeing Johnny Depp's take, I thought Wilder was always going to be the only Wonka for me. It turns out I was wrong.
The fantastical musical follows Charlie Bucket, played by the extraordinarily talented Harmony Raine Riley, and her impoverished life where her four grandparents all sleep in the one bed at a worn down shack. After seeing four obnoxious, ungrateful children find Willy Wonka's golden tickets, Charlie plucks out the last one from a chocolate bar and takes the audience along on a journey behind the gates of the mysterious confectionery factory.
At one point in the show we discover 'chocolate television' and how it works leading one of the smaller members of the crowd gasping loudly "wow", to the amusement of his fellow theatergoers, leaving them in stitches. And this is what this show is all about, piquing the imagination and wonder of the children in the audience.
