New Rutgers pledge Sam Pilof made 70 stops, 14 tackles for a loss and five sacks in just four games last fall after winning outside linebacker of the year as a sophomore.
, who had been on a visit to Rutgers for two days, as Rutgers’ newest linebacker and Greg Schiano’s next potential leader of his defense.
Pilof and his aunt and uncle arrived on campus on Friday and attended Rutgers’ coaches clinic which featured up to an hour of gospel from six-time Super Bowl championship coach. Pilof also made the latest rounds of Rutgers’ facilities which seemingly are ever improving. “It felt great. I’m just so glad to be going somewhere the coaches will treat me right. I’m really excited to come to New Jersey and be one of the guys,” Pilof said.
Family members on Pilof’s father’s side live in proximity – in North and South Jersey, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Newburgh, N.Y., and Delaware – to Rutgers. His junior season was altered in Week 2 when his nose guard fell on his ankle causing a sever high ankle sprain, and inconsistent playing throughout the rest of the year. Pilof would just play a handful of plays against lesser teams while tougher teams would require more snaps from the team’s defensive star.
