☑️ Maryland Terrapins ☑️ Connecticut Sun ☑️ Prague In recent years, athomas_25 and _bjones18 have become perhaps the most inseparable duo in all of professional women’s basketball, writes benpickman. How that came to be:

have both suited up for Elitzur Ramla in Israel). But four seasons, and counting, abroad? “It’s rare anywhere,” Jones says.

“It’s just second nature for us. We play all year long with each other,” Thomas says. “We love playing with each other, and you can tell the chemistry is just unmatched.” Thomas was the first of the two Sun stars to join Praha. She previously played in both South Korea and Turkey, the latter with Yakin Doğu Üniversitesi, which plays its home games in Ankara, more than an hour flight from where players lived. Before signing Thomas in 2018, Nátalia Hejková, Praha’s FIBA Hall of Fame coach, visited the United States and met with her. Hejková also consulted a number of people in her network who were familiar with the Sun star.

Jones was certainly unheralded early in her professional career. The 6-foot-3 center is now a two-time WNBA All-Star, but she averaged just eight minutes per game over her first three WNBA seasons. It was in Russia, where she spent her first two winters abroad, that she says she felt a culture shock, yet also got used to getting extended run on the court.

When Jones was weighing where to play in the winter of 2019, familiarity with Thomas proved advantageous. Before signing with Praha, Jones asked her Connecticut teammate about the club. She learned that while the Czech team is a perennial EuroLeague title contender, its domestic games are generally uncompetitive — it won its record 257th consecutive Czech league contest this past weekend — and not overly strenuous physically. Thomas also vouched for Jones to Praha’s management.
