He has since received treatment and left the hospital.

As a member of the historic South End Rowing Club, Cooper was well aware of the many harbor seals that likely swam beneath him in the bay’s murky blue waters. After all, “they do bump swimmers every once in a while just with their snout as kind of a curious gesture,” he told SFGATE. “They're very friendly.”
He just didn’t expect one of these doe-eyed, 285-pound mammals to bite both of his legs and send him to the hospital.“It kind of felt like roughhousing with a dog.” At first, the bites on his ankles didn’t seem too worrisome: The teeth marks were faint, and as long as the skin wasn’t broken, he wouldn’t have to seek treatment. But as the day went on, they started to ooze a clear liquid that clung to his socks. “And that's why I had to go to the hospital to get antibiotics, because pinnipeds have a certain bacteria in their mouth that doesn't jive with our land-mammal status,” he said.
